Our Future Programs

Once Mothers United and Empowered, Inc. (MUAE) secures  a physical location, our maternity shelter will provide a full range of essential services. Mothers can enter the shelter  upon confirmation of their pregnancy by a medical professional. At MUAE, our programs are thoughtfully designed to offer the guidance and resources necessary for women to achieve stability and empowerment as they transition into motherhood.
When we obtain our facility, our goal is to accommodate 15 women and their babies for up to 24 months, offering them the opportunity to rebuild their lives in a nurturing environment.

Maternity Home

At Mothers United and Empowered, Inc., we understand the profound challenges that come with homelessness, particularly for first-time expectant mothers facing low-income struggles. The stress of finding stable housing can significantly affect mental health, which is why our mission is twofold: to provide safe and supportive housing while simultaneously addressing the mental health needs of the women who seek our help. By focusing on both these vital areas, we aim to not only decrease homelessness  in this population, but also empower mothers to thrive emotionally, mentally, and socially during one of the most crucial times of their lives. Together, we are shaping a brighter future for these women and their children. (see article by Catherine Marcall attached.)

 Mental Health and Medical Services

We will provide mental health services to mothers who have any psychiatric disorder. We aim to establish a dedicated team of clinicians who will offer direct clinical services at our facility. When assessed and identified, our clinicians will refer our mothers to a psychiatrist or nurse practitioner. for further evaluation and treatment.

Our goal is also to ensure  that our mothers receive medical care while at our facility. Our prenatal care programs will make certain that every mother receives the medical attention and support she needs during her pregnancy. We believe that access to quality healthcare is essential for the well-being of both the mother and her baby.

We are committed to strengthening our postnatal support to help mothers navigate the challenges of motherhood after the birth of their babies. Post natal care will also be provided by our medical partners. Through counseling, education, and community resources, we aim to empower these women to thrive in their new role as mothers.

Case Management Services and Financial Literacy

Case managers  will provide individualized support helping mothers navigate their unique situations. They will  assist in securing essential services and collaborate on long-term housing plans while addressing medical, social, and emotional needs.

With a deep understanding of each mother's circumstances, case managers  will offer guidance and present options when a mother is unable, for any reason, does not carry her pregnancy to full term.

Mothers who are no longer pregnant can remain in our facility for up to 90 days, depending on their healing process and the availability of appropriate transitional or permanent housing.

Throughout this time, therapeutic support will be available to help these mothers address the complex factors involved ,ensuring a safe and compassionate environment for recovery and planning remains.

FINANCIAL LITERACY

Our mission is to empower mothers with essential financial literacy skills, beginning with fundamental concepts such as budgeting and understanding the importance of saving for both immediate needs and long-term goals. By fostering a strong foundation in managing finances, we aim to inspire confidence and self-reliance. For mothers seeking to deepen their knowledge, we will offer specialized guidance in areas like establishing college funds for their children and utilizing tools for effective long-term saving strategies. This initiative seeks to create sustainable financial habits that not only benefit the present but also build a secure future for their families.

Aftercare Services

Significant planning takes place prior to a mother's discharge to ensure a smooth transition. Aftercare, as part of the case management function, involves maintaining consistent contact with mothers to help them sustain the progress made during their stay.

Case managers play a key role in ensuring that these gains are preserved, and long term stability is achieved. This phase also includes data collection that can asses the program's strengths and identifying areas for improvement. By fostering ongoing support and evaluation, the aftercare program contributes to the mothers' sustained success and well-being.

Mentoring Program

Through this program, seasoned mothers will be trusted guides, sharing their knowledge and personal experiences to help new mothers feel more confident and less isolated.

Each mentoring relationship will provide emotional support, practical tips, and encouragement, fostering support where parents can openly discuss their challenges and triumphs.

Vocational and Educational Services

Access to vocational and educational programs focused on skill development and job readiness will be available to our mothers. Each  mom who wishes to participate,  will undergo vocational testing and an educational assessment.

In addition to these evaluations, the program will include practical training, internships, and certifications in industries selected by our mothers. This ensures they gain the necessary skills for meaningful employment. Furthermore, mentorship programs will connect them with experienced professionals, offering guidance, career advice, and the opportunity to build robust professional networks.

These initiatives are designed not only to address immediate needs but also to support long-term success, extending beyond discharge. By equipping our mothers with the tools for future educational and financial achievements, this program aims to empower them to create a stable, prosperous future for themselves and their families.
