Welcome to Mothers United & Empowered, Inc.

Mothers United and Empowered, Inc. (MUAE) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission of empowering first-time expectant mothers (18+) who are facing homelessness to overcome their circumstances. We envision establishing a maternity shelter in the future. In the meantime, we aim to provide elements of the services we plan to offer in our shelter by engaging directly with the community of Westchester County.

How We Can Help now

Education through Workshops

Starting in the summer of 2025, we will introduce educational workshops that blend professional expertise of presenters with the invaluable experiences of seasoned mothers. These sessions will focus on key topics like health and wellness, parenting strategies, financial literacy, and navigating social service systems. By pairing presenters with expert knowledge, and seasoned mothers who offer real-life perspectives, participants will not only gain practical tools but also the information that can increase their confidence needed to facilitate self-advocacy for themselves and their child.

 Mental Health Services

Starting in the winter of 2025, we will begin to support expectant mothers dealing with mental health challenges or who require individualized support managing life as first time mothers. Imagine a first time mom feeling overwhelmed in addition to preparing for her new baby. Imagine being a mom who has experienced trauma in the past and is navigating the emotional challenges that pregnancy can bring.

Moms can reach out to us directly or be referred  to us by hospitals, pediatricians, or any of our partnering organizations. We're recruiting providers with experience in evidence-based practices to support moms with the best standard of care available.

Resources and referrals

We support mothers in our community by providing resources and referrals whenever they reach out to us. Our Resource and Referral system, which is continually updated, offers detailed information about services available within the Westchester area. For instance, if a mother needs assistant from the Department of Social Services, we ensure they have access to the relevant details provided on the department's official website.
